Yay Pulitzers, or, Good thing you didn’t close that paper, cuz it just won stuff…

April 20, 2009

Among the finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing, announced with the other Pulitzers about 20 minutes ago, is Amy Ellis Nutt, a reporter at the Star-Ledger in Newark, NJ. Here’s the citation:

Amy Ellis Nutt of The Star-Ledger, Newark, N.J., for her poignant, deeply reported story of a chiropractor who suffered a severe stroke following brain surgery and became a wildly creative artist, in many ways estranged from his former self

The Star-Ledger, you may remember, was very nearly shuttered less than six months ago. [Imbue personal readings on the causes of journalism crisis here]: I sometimes still blame greedy CEOs.

Unfortunately, the Star-Ledger website is so abysmal, it’s hard to find the story. It looks like a video…but it’s not! Go here, watch the intro, and then choose from the menu on the left to get to Nutt’s 9-part piece.

The Pulitzer in this category went to Lane DeGregory, of the also-threatened St. Petersburg Times.
